FUNDING + COMMUNITY POWER

In partnership with the California Arts Council and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, BE-IMAGINATIVE administered public arts funding through a community co-designed grantmaking process serving Bay Area artists.

As a participating regional partner in the statewide Creative Corps Initiative, we helped steward capital directly to artists in Richmond and Hayward whose work addresses civic engagement, social justice, public health, and cultural narrative.

This work strengthened our expertise in equitable capital distribution, artist-centered funding design, and community-rooted cultural infrastructure.

Featured artist includes Donté Clark and his film Blú Honey.

We do not simply produce art.

We help design the systems that sustain it.

what we do

BE-IMAGINATIVE creates the conditions for powerful legacy work to emerge. We hold sacred and transformative healing experiences, we produce exceptional storytelling, strengthen artists, and steward capital with integrity. Our work operates at the intersection of art, grief literacy, and sustainable infrastructure.

POWERFUL HEALING EXPERIENCES

We design immersive healing environments where artists, leaders, and communities can process grief, restore energy, and deepen their creative capacity. Our gatherings integrate art, music, conversation, and embodied practice to create spaces that are both rigorous and restorative.

These experiences are not separate from creative output. They are the ground from which albums, books, films, and visionary work emerge. When artists are strengthened, their craft expands. When leaders are resourced, their impact multiplies.

Healing is the engine of sustainable cultural work.

EXCEPTIONAL STORYTELLING

We produce and support narrative work that transforms lived experience into cultural legacy. Our storytelling practice spans documentary film, live storytelling, and collaborative media projects that center healing, resilience, and collective transformation. From Emmy award-winning work to emerging artist-led projects, we help shape stories that move culture forward while preserving the dignity and depth of the communities they reflect.

We believe we can recreate our society through the imagination.

ARTISTS ARE AT THE CENTER OF WHAT WE DO.

Artists are at the center of BE-IMAGINATIVE.

We stand in alignment with Nina Simone’s instruction: the artist’s duty is to reflect the times. Our artists do exactly that. They open our healing experiences in song. They paint portraits of our angels. They film our gatherings from a place of participation, not distance. They are the keepers of our stories, the narrative holders of change.

Artists have always stood at the forefront of our movements. They remain at the center of our work.

They hold healing spaces. They witness communities in transition. They create from lived reality. And in doing so, their craft deepens and evolves.

Our work continually calls artists to go further. To risk more truth. To transform their pain into disciplined practice. To expand not only technically, but spiritually.

BE-IMAGINATIVE exists to create the conditions for that evolution.

We are expanding our capacity to invest in artists deeply, to grow alongside them, and to build environments where their gifts mature with integrity and power. When artists are supported at the level of spirit and skill, the work transforms. And when the work transforms, culture shifts.

FUNDING + CAPITAL STRATEGY

We participate in and design community-informed funding models that move resources directly to artists and cultural leaders. Through initiatives such as the California Arts Council’s Creative Corps, we have helped steward public funding using community co-designed processes that prioritize equity and local insight.

We believe capital is cultural power. When distributed with integrity, it strengthens ecosystems, expands opportunity, and ensures that visionary work is not constrained by scarcity.

Our role is to help build structures where creativity and sustainability coexist.

iris garcia of Kataly Foundation talks reimagining funding for healing justice

In this conversation, Iris Garcia of Kataly Foundation challenges funders to deepen their funding practices and move beyond surface-level support. She speaks to the necessity of investing in cultural infrastructure, healing-centered environments, and artist-strengthening ecosystems and names Ayesha Walker and BE-IMAGINATIVE as an example of what becomes possible when spaces like ours are resourced with intention.
